Columbia’s Premier Firearms Training Academy
Prerequisite: Students are expected to have at least a fundamental level of proficiency in shooting and operating a pistol to take this class. Not there yet? Start with Beginners Pistol or Beginners Pistol + CWP.
This course is designed for intermediate and experienced shooters looking to elevate their proficiency in dynamic defensive shooting scenarios.
Participants will learn advanced techniques for accurate and effective pistol use while on the move. The curriculum covers essential skills such as controlled shooting while advancing, retreating, and lateral movement, and transitioning between different shooting positions.
Through a series of challenging drills and practical exercises, students develop the ability to maintain precision under pressure and improve overall response. The course emphasizes safety, speed, and accuracy — building confidence and competence in high-stress environments.
This class goes beyond the basics to prepare you for dynamic defensive scenarios:
Pistol, holster, electronic ear protection (helix-pro.com), eye protection, at least 3 magazines, a magazine holster that holds 2 magazines, at least 250 rounds of ammunition (available in class for purchase), ball cap, closed-toed shoes.
How do I know if I’m ready for Defensive Pistol Tactics?
You should be able to safely and independently load, operate, and shoot a pistol, and be reasonably accurate at static-range distances. If you’re new or unsure, one of our beginner classes is the right starting point.
Is this a self-defense or combat class?
No — this is a skills-development class. It’s ideal for students seeking to refine their handgun skills for personal defense, sport, or competitive shooting. We don’t teach law-enforcement, military, or use-of-force tactics.
Can I bring my own firearm?
Yes — bring the pistol, holster, ear protection, and eye protection you plan to train with, along with at least 3 magazines and a mag holster for 2. Ammunition is available in class for purchase if you don’t want to bring 250 rounds yourself.
